Poetry at its Peak News Story

Lahore: Poetry is when emotion has found thoughts, and thought has found words, said Robert Frost, and it was evident from work presented by our young poets. BSS 45th birthday was celebrated this year with enthusiasm and zeal as always; however, it was essential to follow the SOPs and ensure the festivities were done keeping in mind the Covid – 19 safety protocol.

Students were as keen and excited to celebrate as each year; however, this year, they were slightly challenged. Grade V students were given an option to express their feelings about their school in free verse poems on the topic; ‘My school – my Beaconhouse’ and the creativity that came out showed the strength of BSS students. A part of the philosophy of BSS; ‘We believe that modern methods and attitudes can enable students to achieve their fullest potential,’ was truly visible here.

Students found it intriguing as well as their emotions about their school found a thought process to deliver their views about their beloved school. The words were dripping with their profound love which is common to be seen amongst the alumni but hardly ever visible in such young students. It was challenging to pick and choose the best from the students’ response from all nine sections. Group B not only shared their poems online through PowerPoint Presentations but keenly brought them to school written on a piece of paper the next day too.

Group A did the task in school, and the level of creativity was at its peak, the buzz of excitement and the chirping of students in each section to bring out their poetic side was a sight in itself that kept the teachers mesmerised. The work of our students was an accurate depiction of these words

“Poetry is ordinary language raised to the Nth power. Poetry is boned with ideas, nerved and blooded with emotions, all held together by the delicate, tough skin of words.” — Paul Engle
