Lahore: Under the aegis of Beaconhouse National University, the BNU-RTI Project Team organised a three-day RTI Art Fest from September 30 to October 1, 2014 at the Lahore Arts Council, Alhamra Art Gallery. The exhibition featured the work of participants from three districts: Lahore, Faisalabad and Multan.

On the final day, the RTI Retreat was planned for the winners and runners-up of the BNU Art Fest competitions (Logo Design, Poster Design, Pictorial Story-telling and Videography) and the RTI Declamation Contests held on October 2, 2014 at the Alhamra Art Gallery.

The retreat began with a workshop by the Center for Peace and Development Initiatives, a consulting firm under the World Bank RTI Project. RTI Law Coordinator Mr Saleem Malik conducted the workshop and gave and overview of the RTI. An interactive session was held at the end of the workshop in which participants formed groups and wrote applications requesting information from any of the Punjab government’s departments. The workshop was followed by the prize distribution ceremony. The chief guests were Dean School of Visual Arts and Design at BNU, Professor Salima Hashmi, and Information Commissioner Punjab Mukhtar Ahmed Ali. The chief guests awarded cash prizes and certificates to the winners and runners-up.

Students participated from different districts and institutions including the University of Gujrat, Bahauddin Zakariya University Multan, COMSATS, University of Faisalabad, Lahore College for Women University, BSS Faisalabad, BSS Gujranwala and many others. People visiting the Art Fest exhibition admired the participants’ work and considered it a vital step in creating awareness about RTI laws.
